week 1: Happy Birthday President Nelson
Hey guys!
First of all, shoutout to President Nelson for living 100 years. He's pretty cool for that.
Second of all, if you're one of my missionary friends you should definitely add my missionary email to your list because I don't wanna miss out on anything! thanks!
Anyways, I can't believe I've been a missionary for over a week already! But since it's only been a week I don't have much to share.
I met my companion a week ago! Sister Sariah Summers. I love her so much already! She's really cool. And then of course I met the rest of my district and I was a little unsure at first but as I've gotten to know them all I've grown to love them too. I'm actually convinced I have the best district ever.
Our zoom classes are 3 hours long! so they give us a 10 minute break every hour. Well at first we used to all turn off our cameras and then come back when 10 minutes was up. It's a good time to stretch your legs or get a snack (unless you're Elder Houston in which case you have a whole stash underneath your desk). I usually would use this time to flop onto my bed because I had nothing better to do. One time, during our break, while I was sitting on my bed I heard one of the elders talking to his companion. So obviously I had to go see what they were doing. I turned my camera back on and asked but while we were talking cameras started popping on left and right. I literally was so confused cause why on earth were they all sitting there still. We still had a whole 10 minute break left. After that we just started doing that every time we were given breaks. instead of turning off our cameras and leaving we just stay and talk and get to know each other. it's my favorite thing ever! We spend hours every day talking about mission stuff so it's nice to get to learn about each other for a second. Plus we're all best friends now and I'm SO excited to get to meet them in person!
Elder Houston, for those of you who don't know, is my second cousin! It's super cool that we get to go through the MTC at the same time! We are in different districts but every now and then we have workshops that are joined with everyone so it's fun to have that class together. My favorite thing to do is pin him on my screen because he's so entertaining. He always has a fruit roll-up dangling out of his mouth or a box of fishy crackers in his lap. One time one of the comments in the chat said "Elder Houston is munching!" and I died laughing. Because he really is. Constantly. Sometimes they put us into these things called "breakout rooms" where they can separate us into different zoom calls in order to talk one on one and practice teaching. but Elder Houston and I never got put into one together. Which i mean what are the odds if there's over 300 missionaries on that call?
Butttttt today we joined another district for an hour of our class and it just so happened to be his! We started to practice teaching the plan of salvation so they put us in breakout rooms and I was hoping and praying that it would be Elder Houston... and it wasn't. it was his companion 😂 just my luck right? I guess he was close enough. It was fun to meet his companion and talk to him. We practiced two different times in the same groups and then it was time to switch it up. And this time it was HIM! I was so excited! That was our last class before going to the Provo MTC and our literal last time in breakout rooms so I'm very grateful I got a chance to practice teaching with him at least once.
So funny story actually, I was supposed to start home MTC a week before i actually did. they pushed me back a week for whatever reason (i literally don't know why cause they didn't tell me). I was originally gonna be in the MTC with my cousin Jasmine. I mean Sister Bundy. and we were SO excited. But then I got pushed back and I think I know the reason now. I think I needed the district I have and I also think I needed to be here with Elder Houston. (Jaz if you're reading this I'm sorry but it turned out the way it was supposed to and I can't wait to see you on wednesday. I love you.)
Anyways, sorry for this late email and sorry that it's kind of all over the place. I can't wait to tell you guys about all of my new adventures. I've learned a lot so far and I'm excited to get out and learn some more. I know that I'm right where I'm supposed to be and that everything happens for a reason. I love you all! Thanks for all the support!
