week 14: kirtland snow globe ❄️
don't worry guys I'm alive, just had to move our p day this week so we could go to the Columbus temple! which is where I'm currently heading to at this exact moment :)
before I say anything else.. here's my google photos: https://photos.app.goo.gl/o1Wmow78ZBW55WZd8
spiritual thought: to repent means to turn more fully to God. when President Nelson says to "focus on daily repentance" that means to work every day on turning more fully to our Savior Jesus Christ and our Father in Heaven. how can you turn to Him today?
"When we choose to repent, we choose to change! We allow the Savior to transform us into the best version of ourselves. We choose to grow spiritually and receive joy—the joy of redemption in Him. When we choose to repent, we choose to become more like Jesus Christ!" -President Nelson - We Can Do Better and Be Better April 2019 General Conference
MONDAY
we had a turkey bowl activity with the zone in kirtland! except it was snowing so we didn't play football and instead played chair soccer and volleyball. I'm so bad at sports 😂 it was a super fun day though!
that night we had dinner at the Barker's. Brother Barker is the bishop of the Shaker Heights ward. they have 3 sons under the age of 12 and apparently they have a tradition where they have to guess the first names of the missionaries they meet. they also have a family hymn book with their name on it. they have all the missionaries sign it with their name, where they're from and what dates they're serving in the Shaker heights ward. then they have them sign their name next to their favorite hymns and then sing one together. we sang choose the right.. they told us they like to sing "bright and loud and fast" and they were in fact singing all of those ways. Sister Barker and the youngest son were keeping beat by smacking the table and we all sang bright, loud and fast. it was quite iconic
TUESDAY
interview days are way different when you're STL 3 (I'm not actually it's just a joke) but we were at EVERY single district council throughout the day. so we spent the whole day in meetings in kirtland. we also went to the Shaker Ward relief society activity and made wreaths! it was sooo much fun! I think they turned out cute :)
WEDNESDAY
we put our friend bill on date to follow the example of Jesus Christ and get baptized! pray for bill! sister heieie had to go to an interview in Kirtland with president Joe Jackson because she's going home soon. there was another sister who also had to do her interview so 5 of us sisters went at the same time! they fed us dinner and then we all played card games with Sister Jackson and their son while we waited for the interviews to be done. then president Jackson told us some Kirtland lore because he knows everything about kirtland.
THURSDAY
we had a lesson with our referral Roman! he's SO cool. he's from Russia but got adopted by an American family. he doesn't agree with their religion anymore and is super interested in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints! pray for himmmmm
there was a whole blizzard! so instead of driving in dangerous conditions in chardon we volunteered to be hosts at the kirtland temple visitors center nativity exhibit. not many people showed up so we just got to sit in there and look out the window at the temple surrounded by snowflakes. it was a kirtland snow globe I'd have to say ❄️
FRIDAY
made a snowman named Ker-fluffle (thanks elder Richardson for the iconic idea)
we made slime during our lesson with Matilyn! it was glow in the dark glitter slime. I made mine a periwinkle color. lowkey I think we taught Matilyn's dad more than we taught her but it was a good lesson either way. pray for mati and her family!
SATURDAY
we went to a baptism in sister heieie's last area, Talmage! that night was the chardon branch Feliz Navidad party! our friends the Duncan's showed up and knew some of the members already so that was pretty cool!
SUNDAY
ker-fluffle turned into a puddle :(
I GAVE A TALK IN CHURCH! 3rd talk I've ever given in Sacrament Meeting lol and I cried the whole time. I blame grandma carlene for that one. after church we went home and I made homemade salsa! thanks mom and dad for teaching me how to chef. we ran to this event in kirtland. a choir from another church came to perform at the visitors center and it was so awesome. then we ran to the Juker's for dinner and ran back to kirtland for a baptism! it was a 14 year old girl the Hermanas were teaching. her older brother joined the church awhile back and helped her find it too. their parents aren't members..yet but it was the most wholesome baptism!
MONDAY
NOT P DAY so we did normal missionary work of course. had a lesson with mindy the mennonite and she has so many questions. she really truly is searching for truth and it's so cool! we also had a lesson with our friend wendy! pray for mindy and wendy!
I love you all and hope you're having a wonderful holiday season! don't be afraid to shoot me an email :)
