spiritual thought: in relief society we talked about Elder Shumway's most recent conference talk, "Participate to Prepare for Christ's Return" and I loved this quote from it.
"When we serve because we love God and want to live our covenants, service that seems dutiful and draining becomes joyful and transformative."
I know that serving in the church helps us learn more about Jesus Christ and become more like Jesus Christ which ultimately prepares us for His second coming! focusing on our love for Him truly does make it easier and more joyful!
MONDAY
our district activity got canceled after we drove 40 minutes to get there... so we got raising canes and drove back. we decided to go on a hike! at first it wasn't much of a hike but by the end it was all up hill and we were dying. it's so humid out here. we had two lessons fall through, one who gave her Book of Mormon back to us. oh well, we'll give it to someone who will use it.
TUESDAY
while knocking we met this guy named Roger! he was outside making some wood carvings and had lots of different things he had made all over his yard. of course we asked about it and he said its a God-given talent that he found and it's something he loves to do. we taught him about the Book of Mormon and he agreed to reading a chapter. we taught our friend Nellie about the plan of salvation! then we had a lesson with our recent convert Laura! we taught her some English and then introduced her to country music and THEN taught her to dance. we taught her the church clap 😂 she ate it up. we love lessons with Laura.
WEDNESDAY
we had district council and elder Peterson gave us a BUSSIN training. he had us write down the things that were distracting us and keeping us from being the best missionary we could be and then we folded up those papers and took them outside and lit them on fire. He said we'd be sacrificing these things for the rest of our missions or even the rest of our lives. well the only problem is I thought I would be silly and put my companions name on that piece of paper... she won't let me forget about it...
THURSDAY
we knocked again and decided there was gonna be an elect person in the next door. when this guy opened his door he almost jumped out the screen door at us. Sister Turner and I almost took off running. he was very drunk... at 11:30am
later we met this girl named shanena! we told her about the Book of Mormon and she asked if she could have a copy, we'll be back.
FRIDAY
okay okay so we've been on a knocking GRIND. we met monica and then met Alanna. taught them both about the Book of Mormon and they were both interested in learning more! we knocked more later and met Ronnie who was also interested in learning about the Book of Mormon! we had a lesson with Noah and now he's praying about baptism! pray for Noah that he'll get his answer!
we did this thing where we decided every yellow car we saw the other person had to share a scripture and every Ford ranger we saw the other person had to choose a hymn for us to listen to. we listened to a lot of hymns cause everyone and their moms drive Rangers out here.
SATURDAY
we started our day with a lesson with shawn! we went over Lehi's vision with him! then we visited Roger and he said he'd carve us lil cows hehe
we had a lesson with zeck and he basically put himself on date! he's preparing for baptism on September 21st! it was a good day :)
SUNDAY
Noah and Zeck came to church! and there was a group of 6 young friends from Dayton who were visiting. one of them was a returned missionary and it seemed like he just brought all his friends to sacrament with him! while they were in Jackson we have no idea but it was fun to have visitors. we also taught relief society. we definitely didn't prepare but it was good anyways! we knocked.. again... and met lots of catholics. also a sweet lady with a really precious porch gave us some water bottles so that was nice.
it's been a great week once again! now tell me about yours :) I love and miss you all! till next time
